1. How does Gourmet Lingual differ from a traditional travel agency or concierge?

Gourmet Lingual is designed for independent travelers who want Japan-based insight and practical support without handing over control of their trip. Rather than selling fixed packages, we help you research options, understand local context, make informed choices, and navigate practical details before and during your time in Japan.

2. Will you handle all my bookings and reservations?

You remain responsible for major travel bookings and payments, such as flights, hotels, and transportation. For restaurants, we can help with restaurant research, reservation requirements, and reservation requests where permitted. Standalone Restaurant Search & Reservation Support is also available for travelers who only need help with a specific dining request.

If third-party bookings are not allowed or personal payment or credit card information is required, the reservation must be completed directly by you. In these cases, we may still be able to research the booking process and assist you with completing the reservation yourself.

For more information, see our guide to Restaurant Reservations in Japan.

3. Do I need to be a serious "food traveler" to work with you?

Not at all. Food and dining are one of our strongest areas of expertise, but your trip does not need to revolve around food. We support the broader flow of your Japan experience, including travel choices, local context, timing, reservation guidance, and practical questions.

4. How do we communicate during my stay in Japan?

If your broader travel support plan includes in-trip assistance, online support is available during your stay within the agreed service hours and scope. You can reach out with questions, changes, or practical concerns that arise during your trip. Communication is available in English and Japanese.

5. How are your fees structured?

Pricing for broader travel support reflects the duration and scope of support. Standalone restaurant support is priced based on the scope and complexity of the request. Once we understand your needs, we share an initial estimate. Final pricing and scope are confirmed before you decide to proceed.

6. How far in advance should I start planning with you?

For broader travel support, we recommend reaching out at least 14 days before your trip begins whenever possible. This gives us time to understand your needs, research appropriate options, and prepare the agreed support without rushing. Our broader travel support is available for engagements of three days or more.

Standalone Restaurant Search & Reservation Support can be requested separately, with no minimum duration. For standalone restaurant support, availability depends on the nature and timing of the request.
